The game of Poker has never been more accessible, with online Poker allowing you to play from the comfort of your home. But of course, for those who are not familiar with the game, it can be a little bit daunting to sign up to an online casino and jump into the depths of a Poker tournament.
The basic premise of the game is to receive a better hand than your opponent. In a game of skill, you must bluff and protest yours is the winning hand, but as much as you try to convince others of your success, you must know when to fold. To give you a head start, here are some of the best hands you can get in Poker and if you’re dealt one, be sure to stay confident.
The only place to start is at the top with a royal flush. If you receive this hand in the game, you’ve bagged yourself a one-way ticket to Winners Town. All cards must be in the same suit and will consist of the highest cards: Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10.
A royal flush can be beaten, depending on what type of suit you receive. Clubs are ranked the lowest, then Diamonds, Hearts and Spades. If you’re holding a spades royal flush, you’ve topped your opponents, but if it’s clubs there is still a small chance you could be defeated.
Similar to a royal flush in that the cards must be in numerical order and the same suit, but it can be any range of numbers. Again, the suits of flushes are ranked against one another, clubs being the lowest and spades highest. If a flush includes the numbers: 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 then it would beat a flush consisting of 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
This hand is lower in value compared to the royal and straight flushes. A standard flush consists of cards from the same suit. These can be any cards from the same suit and do not have to be in numerical order. These types of hands are also known by a different name depending on the highest value card, for example, a flush with a Jack as the highest card is also known as a ‘Jack-high flush’.
A straight hand focuses on numbers in a sequence. They can be from any suit but must be in numerical order. If the hand’s highest card was a seven, it could also be called a seven-high straight, in which case it would beat a five-high straight.
A self-explanatory hand, to achieve this, you need to hold four cards of the same type. It can be any card from a suit, four Kings, four tens or four twos. If you put them against one another, the four of a kind that has the highest value would win the hand.
Similar to a four of a kind, three of a kind has the same premise. Three cards of the same value from any suit, with the highest winning. If you play with multiple decks and both players have the same value hand, the cards in the rest of the hand would come into play.
There can be multiple pairs in one hand, but they must be different in values. You can have two pairs or just one, but the player with the highest value wins. Two pairs will beat one pair, even if a player is holding Kings.
Although the highest card hand is at the bottom of our list, it can still win you the game. If no player achieves a hand in this list above, holding an Ace could win you the game. The cards beat one another based on suits, so the Ace of Spades would be the highest single card you could win a game with.
