Incredible Photographs Of An Innercity Predator
I took the images in this post from a website called palemale.com. The website owner takes intimate photos of wildlife that persists in city centres, particularly of a red-tailed hawk called Pale Male who lives near Central Park, NYC.
The photographer – Lincoln Karim – also writes letters to official bodies campaigning against anything he observes that challenges wildlife or safety in the streets and parks of NYC. Like the huge glass fronted cafe on the MET building that birds fly straight into, or the gasoline generator used by an ice cream truck in Central Park, or scaffolding interfering with nesting birds of prey.
It’s an odd website, but also filled with intrigue and some carefully taken suburban wildlife shots. I urge you to take a look, and read some of the letters. Lincoln Karim has become a bit of a cult hero to wildlife fans in New York, and a bit of a thorn in the side of the authorities:
