Vietnamese paper master Hoàng Tiến Quyết uses a technique called wet folding to create origami masterpieces with a literal twist. By wetting the paper slightly he is able to add curves.
Apparently wet-folding is a tricky technique to master; if the paper is too wet it will rip and if it’s too dry and you won’t get the snazzy curves you were looking for. I certainly wouldn’t have the patience, but I’m glad someone has.
