Laurie Lipton, a New York born arts and crafts wizard, creates impressively detailed and darkly humorous images. She’s lived in a number of countries including England, France and Germany but now resides in West Hollywood.
The detail in her work is immense which somehow adds to the playful mood without taking away from the palpable misery, quite an odd mix really. The depth to Lipton’s sketches is so meticulously brutal it makes me want to crawl inside and have a proper look around, but given the opportunity I think I’d be too scared to enter her world.
As you can imagine, Lipton’s work is on a pretty large physical scale, measured in feet rather than inches, I reckon to fully enjoy it you’d have to see it up close and in the flesh. I can’t find any shows planned over this side of the pond at the moment though I’m afraid.
