Choi Jeong Hwa: Size & Colour In South Korea
Choi Jeong Hwa (61) is a South Korean artist who likes to keep himself busy; Choi Jeong must in fact be one of the most prolific artists in the entire country, if not the world. I initially came across the impressive inflatable flowers that he’s dotted across the globe, but when perusing Choi Jeong Hwa’s back catalogue I was blown away by the sheer volume of work.
Much of Choi Jeong’ stuff is large scale and public, and all of it is playful and colour heavy. I’m assuming it doesn’t suit all tastes but I’ve lobbed a whole host of his stuff up here for you to meander through.
First off, here are a bunch of his ‘breathing flowers’ in South Korea and beyond:
Biennale of Sydney, Australia
San Francisco
Emptiness Is Form. Form is emptiness, M+ – Hong Kong
Kunsthalle Gwangju, South Korea
Kyiv, Russia
Moving Flower, Perth
Here’s a video of the breathing flower in action…
But there’s more to Choi Jeong Hwa than massive inflatable flowers…
