The Darkest Art By Vania Zouravliov

I came across the art of Vania Zouravliov whilst I was putting together a post about the macabre and the beautifuly grotesque and I must admit I was taken aback. Zouravliov was born in Russia and was something of a child Protégé. Taking inspiration from everything he was surrounded by, from Disney to the Bible, he soon became more than adept at creating jaw-droppingly bleak images.

His skills didn’t go unnoticed and classical musicians such as Ashkenazi, Spivakov and Menuhin championed his work. By the tender age of 13 Zouravliov was showing his shizzle on a global scale visiting Berlin, Paris, and Cantebury before settling down to study in the UK.

Zouravliov is now based in London and working with the creative agency Big Active. This relationship has got him jobs with some big operations like National Geographic and Game of Thrones. According to a piece in Juxtapoz online mag the incredible artist isn’t keen on having his photo taken, this is the only one I could find:

LATE EDIT: I just got sent another picture which is much better, but not any more cheery:

He certainly doesn’t look particularly happy, but then I suppose if you’re not keen on having your photo taken you would be a bit miffed. Here’s a selection of his work. It really is amazing. He’s got an incredibly wide variety of styles and techniques for such a young fella…
