Fields of crops aren’t normally a tourist trap, but the floral crops of Carlsbad, California are a different story. Each year their wealth of ranunculus flowers bring in bus loads of gawping wonder chasers. They certainly do look impressive. Around 100,000 people a year pop along to Carlsbad to have a good look at the spectacle.
The flower fields combine hundreds of acres of ranunculus with stunning views of the coast line. Most of the farms in the area have tourist businesses alongside the hard work of growing and harvesting their blooms. So you can get tractor rides through the rainbow coloured fields and have picnics amongst the beds. AAaahhhhh….
Ranunculus is a native species to California and a pretty hardy flower by all accounts. It grows from a tuber and can withstand frost and arid conditions making it a popular seller across the States. Anyway, I basically just wanted to show you these pretty pictures of Carlsbad. That’s all really:

That was sort of relaxing wasn’t it? I wouldn’t say I’m generally a massive fan of flowers, but en masse they make for an arresting sight.
