With the internet being what it is: 99% lies, 1% truth and 8% bad maths I can’t promise you this is a true and real document. But it gave me a giggle so I’m passing it on…
Wikipedia appears to think it’s a fake, but what do they know? The debunking website Snopes think it’s an urban myth too, but who trusts them? The Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) calls it “easily believable if you are not familiar with how the Navy operates or simple things such as GPS“. But the MOAA are well known for their flights of fancy.
An actual Canadian lighthouse keeper, Jim Abram of British Columbia, said “I’ve been lighthouse keeping for 21 years and no one’s ever thought that I was in anything but a lighthouse.” But Jim is allegedly a heavy drinker and philanderer. And the fact that most lighthouses are unmanned is neither here nor there.
I’m going to err on the side of caution and say it is probably true.
You decide for yourself. Bye.
