This is the sort of footage that steadfastly reaffirms my staunch terror of the high seas. I know I’m not likely to get disemboweled by the Kraken as I paddle in the shallows just feet from the Sussex coastline, but this is the stuff of nightmare. These images will come back to me as I skulk knee deep in Brighton’s freezing sea.
Two divers are out filming near Souza Rock on the Central Californian coast. All of a sudden, the water gets foamy all about them them with a myriad of tiny, petrified fish fleeing for their lives. Then, just feet away from the divers, two MASSIVE humpbacks (well, they’re probably normal sized humpbacks, there all big ain’t they) lurch out of the water mouths agape.
I would have pooed myself, weed myself and been sick. Then I would have fainted, when I came back round and remembered what had just happened I would puke, poo and wee again, then faint. I would then complete that cycle until I was a shriveled husk of bones.
If they’d been unlucky enough to enter the cavernous mouths, I think they would have been spat out by the whale, because whales have a relatively small food pipe for a beast of their size. I certainly wouldn’t have wanted to risk it though.
