For those of you that aren’t familiar with my face, I am bearded. Don’t get too jealous though, I’ve not got the sort of beard coverage that I’ve always dreamed of. It’s a bit patchy, scratchy and disobedient. Maybe that’s why I’m a bit obsessed with facial hair en general? It’s jealousy mingled with pride. A heady mix indeed. I feel like a young boy carrying his wooden sword into battle behind his seasoned warrior of a father.

This years National Beard and Moustache Competition in New Orleans’ House of Blues, saw Jeff Langum (pictured above) take the throne with zeal. His full natural beard was likened to “a scraggly rising sun” but to me it looks more like a rising bear. He fought off dozens of opponents to finally get his crown.
